Carnival of Personal Finance #113 at My Open Wallet

My Open Wallet is hosting the Carnival of Personal Finance this week.

Here are a couple of posts from it I recommend:

Money, Matter, and More Musings  and lots of commenters discuss some Interesting Facts and Confusing Thoughts About the American Poor.

My Money and My Life goes through a really interesting exercise to determine What your budget says about your values.

Online Savings Blog describes another unique USAA feature- scanning checks in for deposit instead of going to the bank or mailing them. I don’t have a scanner, so I haven’t been able to take advantage of this, but from the couple of comments, it sounds like it might not be ready for prime time.

usaa deposit@home is DEFINITELY ready for prime time. I’ve been using it now for the past 6 months on both mac and pc with both internet explorer and firefox web browsers. the only limiting factor is the $5000 daily limit (at least it is not a rolling 24 hour, so you could deposit $5k at 11:59pm and another $5k at 00:01am), but then again you also have ACH transfer limit of $5k to/from non-usaa too.

with a mac, it’s a little different since you have to scan and save both the front and back of the check. with a pc, you can scan directly into the web browser.

it is a great feature that no other bank that i know of has. once scanned, the money is available immediately.
