112th Carnival of Personal Finance at The Frugal Law Student

Monday, August 6th, 2007

This week, the 112th Carnival of Personal Finance is being hosted by The Frugal Law Student.

Here are a couple of posts I’d like to highlight, both from blogs new to me:

Journey2Retirement really gave me something to think about with his post on why he has life insurance on his child. It’s an unconventional thought and while I’m not completely convinced, he makes an excellent point.

The Chief Family Officer tells us why she keeps her family’s emergency fund in a traditional, low-interest account. Though I don’t share her aversion to internet-only banks, I do see her point that doing so keeps things less cluttered. I think it’s also a great idea, like she points out, to have some cash on hand in the house for your disaster kit.

110th Carnival of Personal Finance

Wednesday, July 25th, 2007

The 110th Carnival of Personal Finance is up at Fat Pitch Financials.

Two of my favorite submissions this week:

Single Ma talks about how to close credit cards without affecting your credit score.

Free Money Finance asks the question how much of your net worth should be in your primary residence. Our number is about 46% of our net worth is our home equity. We got lucky and bought before the big run-up in residential real estate prices.

Carnival of Personal Finance #109 at The Mint

Tuesday, July 17th, 2007

The 109th Carnival of Personal Finance is up at The Mint Blog this week.

My favorite submissions:

Grad Money Matters has a great post on the myths of mortgages and home ownership.  I didn’t know about myths 7 & 8.  Great information.

Mighty Bargain Hunter wrote about the war against pawn shops. I like the idea of pawn shops, but I haven’t yet gotten myself to actually go into one.

Stop Buying Crap asks the eternal question “Are you a cheapass or a dumbass?

Carnival of Personal Finance 108 @ Broke Ass Student

Wednesday, July 11th, 2007

This week, Broke Ass Student hosts the Carnival of Personal Finance.

A couple of my picks:

Moneymonk tells what an ‘emergency’ is to her.

The Money Mythos explains why a 0% loan keeps him up at night.

Carnival of Personal Finance #107 at Blogging Away Debt

Monday, July 2nd, 2007

The 107th Carnival of Personal Finance is being hosted this week at Blogging Away Debt.

Tricia’s listed the submissions by size.  I like the idea a lot.

Here are my favorites:

Story Girl writes about Money Anxiety.  I’ve had these same thoughts myself.  In fact, I have a post written along the same lines.

Life and Debt in Chicago has almost wrapped up her Christmas shopping - in July!  This sounds exactly like my wife.  She has most of ours done, as well.  She’s a master at finding great deals throughout the year to give as gifts.

The Digerati Life tells us about 10 common fights over money and, more importantly, what to do to avoid them.  I especially liked her suggestion #3.
